Are You Trying To Get Pregnant With Fibroids?

does fibroids affect fertility

One of the symptoms of uterine fibroids is infertility so this is something to be aware of if you are trying to get pregnant with fibroids. But the good news is that many women with fibroids can still get pregnant and deliver a healthy baby when the time comes. Some don’t even know that they have fibroids until their checkups during the pregnancy.

But fibroids do pose various problems so it is best before you get pregnant that you have no fibroids because even if they are small, the increased hormone activity during the pregnancy may cause them to grow at a rapid rate which means these tumors will compete for space in the uterus with your baby which is not ideal. Some may even need to be removed during the pregnancy with surgery but who wants to have surgery when they are pregnant?

Trying to get pregnant with fibroids

Fibroids are still a mystery which is why some women with fibroids can get pregnant while having these fibroid tumors while another woman struggles to conceive or carry a baby to term because having fibroids does increase the risk of miscarriage besides the risk of infertility.

But if you are struggling to conceive and think that fibroids are to blame, you need to make sure that this is so and your doctor can be able to determine through various tests whether it is indeed fibroids that are interfering with your ability to get pregnant.

When fibroids are causing infertility, it is usually due to the type and location of the fibroid tumors that you have. Not all fibroids can cause infertility.

The types of uterine fibroids that cause infertility are those that are close to the fallopian tubes which are responsible for releasing the egg into the uterus to be fertilized. The fibroid tumors can be close to the fallopian tubes and not have an impact on fertility but if they block the tube, eggs can be prevented from being released into the uterus and all efforts to get pregnant will fail.

At worst, fertilization can occur in the fallopian tubes which is a dangerous situation requiring the termination of the pregnancy. The types of fibroids which have a tendency to be located close to the fallopian tubes and have a chance to block the tubes are intramural and subserosal fibroid tumors. You may still be able to get pregnant with these types of fibroids. The issue of infertility only arises if they are too close to the point of blocking the tubes.

The other types of uterine fibroids that can cause infertility are those that grow in the lining of the uterus (endometrium) which can create a toxic environment not conducive to the fertilized egg being able to implant itself in the uterus and getting proper nourishment.

If you are trying to get pregnant with fibroids and certain fibroid tumors are getting in the way, the only way that you will be able to accomplish this is by having these tumors removed or shrunk. Even if you do happen to get pregnant with these fibroids still in your body, there is always the chance of miscarriage because of the fibroids and severe hemorrhage during delivery so it is better to be safe rather than sorry by ensuring that you do not have any fibroid tumors when you get pregnant. Having fibroids while pregnant also means that the baby will likely be delivered by c-section and not a natural birth.

Steps for improving your fertility

1. Natural methods

You can implement a holistic program such as the one set forth in the Fibroids Miracle book in order to shrink the fibroids and prevent them from returning so that you are able to get pregnant.

The holistic approach uses various techniques to eliminate fibroids and prevent them from returning including changing your diet, exercise, oils, stress management, the use of herbs such as the False Unicorn Root which is not only is a popular herb for improving fertility but which also has some ability to be able to shrink fibroid tumors. There are also many other herbs that you can use including those discussed here.

One thing to remember is that the holistic approach takes time to take effect. It does not work overnight. It may take several weeks and months to produce results. If you need an overnight solution (which will not prevent these tumors from returning) then the following surgery is for you.

2. Myomectomy

This is a surgical procedure which seeks to remove fibroid tumors while leaving your uterus intact. This is the procedure that your doctor will recommend if you are trying to get pregnant with fibroids. If you have a lot of fibroids, only the larger tumors or the ones standing in the way of your fertility will be removed which means that the ones left behind will still continue to grow requiring more surgery in the future.

And because your uterus remains and this surgical procedure does not address the underlying cause like the holistic method, fibroids may return.

But if you do have a myomectomy, you will need to have an abdominal myomectomy which is usually recommended for those who want to get pregnant. Find out more about the various types of mymectomy procedures and why the abdominal mymectomy is best if you are trying to get pregnant by clicking here.

If you are trying to get pregnant with fibroids, these tumors may not prevent you from conceiving and carrying the baby to term. But they can also cause problems besides infertility in some women. Whether they are preventing you from getting pregnant or not, it is best not to be dealing with fibroids at all even if you still manage to get pregnant.

Removing or shrinking them can not only help with your fertility but your baby will not have to fight for space and nutrients with a fibroid. You can definitely go the natural route to get rid of fibroids but you should not expect an overnight cure.

A married lady recently wrote me about certain herbs I had recommended for shrinking fibroids and mentioned that she was being pressured to get pregnant and was wondering if the herbs would work fast. First of all this is not the perfect environment to get pregnant when you are dealing with external pressure which causes stress and anxiety and secondly, surgery (myomectomy) would probably work better for her since she wanted fast results.

Weigh your options when trying to get pregnant with fibroids and decide which course of action is best for you if you are trying to conceive. Talk to your doctor, do your own research and do not be pressured into making any decisions that may not work for you. Fibroids can cause problems but all problems are meant to be solved one way or the other.
